Since 2011 our team has developed special limited creations for the utmost enjoyment of beer again and again.
A Special Edition from Hofbräu Kaltenhausen on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the carol “Silent Night, Holy Night”.
In the “Edition 200 Jahre Stille Nacht” (200th anniversary of Silent Night) we have created a beer which is faithful to the colour, aroma and taste of the beers of yesteryear but interpreted in a modern manner. Vibrant amber to copper in colour, unfiltered, naturally cloudy with a fine yeast aroma. The maltiness in the aroma and taste is harmoniously balanced with the typical slight bitterness of ancient varieties of hops.
Special Edition "200 Jahre Stille Nacht"
Our 2017 Limited Edition – a Chocolate Stout in a 0.75l bottle – presents itself as a rich dark brown with reddish highlights.
At the beginning a noticeable chocolate note can be recognized which is then accompanied very harmoniously by the coffee aroma typical of stout. The Chocolate Stout is not at all sweet in taste but characterized by a particular softness on the palate. The delicate toasted notes, reminiscent of cocoa and chocolate, are perfectly balanced with the modest hop dosage.
Accompaniment for food: A perfect match for seared steaks, mussels or scallops. It harmonizes particularly well with fruity desserts or chocolate ones as well as with nuts, nut cake or vanilla ice cream. But it is also a taste experience when accompanied by smoked cheese or spicy blue-veined cheese.
Optimal drinking temperature: 10 – 12°
Edition Balthasar - 2017
The Bernardus is rich gold in colour and typically cloudy, testimony to the original brewing process of a Belgian Tripel beer. The characteristic aromas of Belgium Abbey yeast combine outstandingly with the fruity fresh notes from dry-hopping with Huell Melon and Mandarina Bavaria. Thus a particular lightness accompanied by fresh honeydew melons and green pepper comes into being which pushes the stronger alcohol content wonderfully into the background. A delicate bitterness rounds off these complex aromas.
Accompaniment for food: excellent with veal, in particular also with veal Wiener schnitzel and poultry, e.g. a rolled joint of turkey. A good companion for stronger cheeses.
Optimal drinking temperature: 8 – 10°
Edition Bernardus Tripel - 2016
A homage to the past, the choice of the name comes from the list of Salzburg’s archbishops.
Ignatius is a wheat beer, intensive orange in colour, very cloudy and with a white head. A clear aroma of ripe bananas in the nose. A fruit bowl of bananas, peaches and honeydew melon on the palate. The soft texture of sweet fruitiness is perfectly balanced by a restrained hoppy bitterness. In harmony with this the delicate citrus tones of mandarin oranges from the dry-hopping with Amarillo and Citra.
Edition Ignatius - 2015
Strong copper in colour with bright orange tones and a creamy-white head. The dry-hopping with Citra leads to intensive citrus aromas and exotic aromas in the nose. The taste of ripe fruits such as mango and pineapple unfolds in the flavour. The pronounced fruitiness is balanced by a distinct but harmonious bitterness.
As far as beer type is concerned, Gandolf is an India Pale Ale (IPA), i.e. a top-fermenting, strongly hopped strong beer speciality. Dry-hopping was undertaken in the storage phase which gives the product an intensive, exotic-fruity aroma.
Optimal drinking temperature: 8 – 10°
Edition Gandolf - 2014
Kardinal is a full-bodied, red “Doppelbock”, bottom-fermented with mild dry-hopping. Rich red in colour with ruby reflections, a dense cream-coloured head with a reddish tone. A clear hoppy note with echoes of grapefruit and mango, accentuated with delicate caramel tones. After the initial caramel taste, aromas of elegant cognac and plums blossom quickly; a warming mildly alcoholic note emphasizes the character. Across this lies an exotic aroma from the sensitive dry-hopping with Cascade hops.
Edition Kardinal - 2013
A chocolate brown coloured stout with a strong bitter chocolate aroma and nougat tones – and yet completely without chocolate, just brewed with special roasted malt.
Delicate fruitiness and freshness thanks to English yeast, a hazelnut-brown head, the aroma of bitter chocolate and coffee-like roasted notes, fine nougat tones and a hint of sour cherry can be identified. The beer is full-bodied and has a velvety feeling in the mouth from which a pleasant freshness develops gradually. Ideally served in a neutral, elegant wine glass.
Edition Chocolate Style - 2014
A delight in the spring from mildly hopped Pilsner wort and choice grapes; simultaneously fermented with fine wine yeast and typically bottom-fermented brewer’s yeast – an unfiltered beer speciality for both beer and wine lovers.
Light straw-yellow in colour with light green shimmering reflections, a finely scented wine aroma with fresh citrus notes in the nose. The light body has a sparkling mousse, well-balanced, mild acidity and fades away with a delicate bitterness. A unique fruit beer from Austria, best served in an elegant wine glass.
Edition Riesling Style - 2013/14
A lively thirst quencher for sunny days and mild evenings. Dark hazelnut brown in colour, with a particularly delicate acidity and a fine woody tartness, this beer speciality gets its rich character from select coffee extracts which melt on the palate into a bouquet of coffee, cocoa, tobacco, whisky, caramel and burnt almonds. A well-balanced full-bodied beer speciality which refreshes and animates at the same time.
Edition Coffee Style - 2013/14
Cherry Style – a speciality beer brewed with the juice of fresh sour Morello cherries to which it owes its characteristic colour. Particularly tangy and fruity with pleasing acidity and a fine rosé-coloured head, this speciality beer reminds us of the tradition of the great Belgian Kriek lambic beers.
Edition Cherry Style - 2012/13
Together with an Austrian brewery the food and drink magazine “bier.pur” publishes a special edition on beer each year. In 2012, in co-operation with the speciality production centre Hofbräu Kaltenhausen a top-fermenting, dark ale was created. Almost black in colour with a silky matt shimmer, aromas of roasted malt and bitter chocolate, velvety soft and creamy with a full body with caramelized malt tones and a cognac-like hop finish.
